Pakistani crew member barred from disembarking at Karwar port amid security concerns

Karwar: Amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, Pakistani nationals are currently not permitted to enter India. In this context, a Pakistani crew member aboard a ship that docked at the commercial port of Karwar was barred from disembarking by security agencies. The ship’s captain was also instructed to confiscate the crew member’s mobile phone.

According to sources, a vessel carrying a bitumen consignment from Iraq arrived at Karwar’s commercial port. Upon receiving information that the crew included 12 Indian nationals, two Syrians, and one Pakistani citizen, officers from the police, Coastal Security Force, and Intelligence Bureau (IB) boarded the ship, identified as MTR Ocean, and carried out an inspection.

The Pakistani national’s credentials were verified, and he was directed to remain confined to the ship. Furthermore, the ship's captain was ordered to seize the individual’s mobile phone and ensure he does not use it while the vessel remains within Karwar’s jurisdiction.

It is learned that prior to any vessel docking at the Karwar port, the ship’s agent must submit a complete crew list to the Coastal Security Force and Immigration authorities, with a copy forwarded to port officials. In cases involving foreign nationals, their details are also shared with both state and central intelligence agencies.
