Congress to hold ‘Karavali Dhwani’ in coastal districts from Feb 5

Mangaluru: Congress will organise a 30-day ‘Karavali Dhwani’ yatre across 26 Assembly constituencies in coastal districts from February 5 onwards, AICC general secretary and in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala said on Wednesday.

He told reporters at the District Congress Committee (DCC) office that the yatre will focus on creating awareness among people on the need to maintain communal harmony and against the misdoings of BJP-led state government.

The yatre will be held in two phases: February 5 to 9 and from February 16 to March 10. It will be inaugurated in Sullia.

“Due to the assembly session, the yatra will not be held from February 10 to 15,” he said.

Surjewala charged that the BJP has disappointed people with its poor administration communalism and corrupt practices.

‘’During the previous election, the BJP had manipulated Paresh Mesta death case to polarise the votes. When the CBI said that there was no foul play in the case, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel and other leaders remained tight-lipped,’’ he added.

He also accused BJP of dividing people on communal grounds, for the sake of vote bank politics.

“The elected MLAs from BJP have betrayed the people. The projects meant for the region, such as the development of Shiradi Ghat, doubling the diesel quota for the fishermen, dredging work in the fisheries ports and promises on the release of funds for the development of Backward Classes, have all turned out to be false,” he added.

Surjewala said Congress has assured of implementing 10-point charter aimed at the development of the coastal region and programmes towards the development of micro-backward communities, such as Kudubi, Theeya, Ganiga, Shettigar, Sherigar, Madiwala and others.

‘’The DC manna lands will be reallocated. Currently, the allocation of DC manna lands has been stopped by the current BJP-led state government,’’ he said.

Condemning Ramesh Jarkiholi’s statement on ‘purchasing votes’, AICC general secretary said that the BJP leader has insulted the people and has questioned the integrity of voters by stating so.

A complaint has been submitted by Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar at High Grounds police station, Bengaluru, against BJP national president J P Nadda, CM Bommai, state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel and Ramesh Jarkiholi, he said.

Jarkiholi and others should be immediately booked, he urged and demanded a probe from the Income Tax Department and Enforcement Directorate as from where the leader has accumulated money to ‘purchase’ voters.

MLC B K Hariprasad, MLA U T Khader, former minister B Ramanatha Rai and Abhayachandra Jain, MLC and District Congress president Harish Kumar were present among others.
