Sirsi/Karwar: A festive atmosphere prevailed in the government schools in Uttara Kannada district on Monday.
Right in the morning, children wearing new and tidy dresses (uniforms) rushed towards their classrooms after a span of nearly two months. Though the schools had officially begun on Saturday, not many students had turned up as it was a week-end. So, Monday was the informal ‘Welcome Day’ for students.
Teachers and School Development Monitoring Committee (SDMC) members welcomed the students by offering roses and sweets. Those students who have taken admission to first standard and have come to the school for the first time were welcomed with special care. However, the students were a little apprehensive as they were away from their home.
The schools were decorated with ‘torans’ and a grand welcome was accorded to students in many primary and high schools in urban and rural areas on the first day of school reopening.
At Hegdekatta Government Higher Primary School, SDMC members and teachers distributed uniforms and books to students.
Later, a Jatha was held to create awareness about compulsory education.
