Riyadh: Four expatriates lost their lives and 31 others were injured following a collision between a passenger bus and a truck near Riyadh on Saturday, media reported.
Arab News quoted Saudi Red Crescent spokesman Abdullah Al Muraibid as saying the bus with 51 passengers on board, most of them Indians and Egyptians, was bound for Riyadh.
Meanwhile, nine Saudis, mostly children, died recently in a horrific collision between two vehicles on Madinah road in Hail.
They quoted Saudi Red Crescent spokesman in the region Khaled Al Sahli as saying said the task force received several calls at around dawn on Friday about the tragedy that occurred ten kilometers north of the Hail junction.
The injured were rushed to the General Hospital at Hanakia, while the dead were transported to Madinah for the completion of burial procedures.
Saudi Arabia records 23 road deaths per day
Saudi Gazette, citing the directorate general of traffic's 2015 annual report, said that at least 23 people die and more than 102 others become crippled every day as a result of traffic accidents all over the Kingdom.
The report, published by Makkah Daily on Wednesday, said there is an average of about 1,460 traffic accidents that result in deaths or serious injuries every day in the Kingdom.
The report said as many as 518,795 traffic accidents happened in the Kingdom last year, leaving 8,063 people dead and 36,302 injured.
Saudi Gazette quoted Abdul Hameed Al Moajil, chairman of the Society for Traffic Safety, as saying the statistics were indicative of a steady rise in serious road accidents in the kingdom.
He urged ministers to commission a comprehensive independent study to make recommendations for how to cut the number of traffic accidents in Saudi Arabia.
Al Moajil said the Kingdom occupies the fifth place worldwide in the number of fatal traffic accidents.
