Bhatkal: The Bhatkal Bar Association has strongly condemned the brutal assault on senior advocate Y. R. Sadasiva Reddy — Co-Chairperson of the Bar Council of India and former President of the Karnataka State Bar Council — which occurred on the morning of April 16 inside his office chamber in Bengaluru.
In a memorandum submitted to the Governor of Karnataka, with copies forwarded to the Chief Minister and other key ministers, the association demanded swift legal action against the unidentified attackers and called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the incident.
The memorandum was formally handed over to the Bhatkal Tahsildar in the presence of Bar Association President Advocate M. J. Naik, General Secretary S. N. Naik, and several other lawyers.
Expressing grave concern over the growing violence against advocates, the Bar Association emphasized that such attacks threaten the integrity of the legal profession and undermine the justice system. It called for the immediate arrest of the culprits and reiterated its demand for an impartial CBI investigation to ensure justice.
Describing the incident as a disgrace to the legal fraternity, the association urged the government to take strong and effective measures to safeguard advocates across the state.
According to sources, Reddy was attacked by two unidentified individuals wielding iron rods, in the presence of his junior advocate. The assault not only caused him physical injuries but was also seen as an attempt to undermine his dignity and that of the legal community as a whole.
