MANGALURU: Former MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava criticised BJP MLA Y Bharath Shetty for failing to undertake development works in the Mangaluru City North constituency.

He told reporters here on Wednesday, that the proposed six-lane road from Surathkal Junction to Ganeshpura Temple, at an estimated cost of Rs 58 crore, sanctioned in the state budget, has been reduced to a four-lane road, at a cost of Rs 18 crore by Shetty.

The long-pending demand for Kulai jetty has not taken off, despite the Union minister laying the foundation stone for the project, he said.

The work on a park at Bailare, a market at Krishnapura, Kaikamba, and the upgrade of the health centre has not been completed so far, Bava said, and criticised the Mangaluru City Corporation’s proposal to acquire an additional 10.08 acres, by offering transferable development rights (TDR) to the owners at Pachanady for waste management, and will protest if the MCC goes ahead with the decision.

‘I’m a MLA ticket aspirant’
The Congress leader said that there are 11 aspirants, including him, from the party, for a ticket to contest the Mangaluru City North assembly constituency.
“I am confident of getting the ticket. All my dream projects to develop Surathkal, which were initiated during my tenure as MLA, have remained incomplete. I want to complete it, and serve the people of the constituency,” he said.
