Karkala: Two people died of dengue fever in Karkala taluk from June 2. Karkala taluk, mainly Maala, Hebri and Bajagoli areas are experiencing a rise in dengue cases.
Sources in the Health Department informed that there are 27 confirmed positive cases of the 69 suspected cases. Of them, 11 cases were from Maala area, eight from Hebri and five from Bajagoli.
Kukkundoor, Ajekar and Hirgana areas reported one each case.
Two persons who died from dengue have been identified as Vinutha (18), a second year PU student from Maala. She died at a hospital in Manipal on June 3.
Thrishala Jain (34) of NallurPucchebettu village died at a hospital in Karkala on June 2.
The health department has already swung into action to eliminate further cases and teams of doctors have been conducting door to door visits to sensitize people.
Dr Krishnananda Shetty, Karkala taluk health officer, said that poor elimination of breeding sources in most places have resulted in the outbreak of dengue. “Most suspected cases are reported from Maala area,” he said.
