Mangaluru: Some residents conducted a mock fishing protest at the Padeel-Bajal road Railway Over bridge (ROB) underpass, to alert the MCC to the flooding there.
They failed to catch the sardines which were released prior to the start of the protest. The protestors released Guppy fish into the water, to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes. The underpass is flooded with water right since the start of the monsoon. The Southern Railways constructed the over bridge.
The over bridge was a long-pending demand of Padeel to Bajal residents. The protest was organized with the support of the Democratic Youth Federation of India(DYFI), along with locals. DYFI leader Santhosh Kumar Bajal said the protest was organized to make the MCC take action on the issue. Local resident Premanath Jalligudde said the road cannot be used since the over bridge was constructed, due to the underpass being flooded.
“The MCC has failed to clear the water in the underpass by constructing a storm water drain,” he added. Resident Ashok Salyan said he hopes that the protest will send a message to the MCC to take action on the matter soon.
“As schools and colleges have reopened, the students are struggling to reach on time. The workers too struggle to reach on time, as they have to take other routes due to the flooding,” he stressed.
