Udupi: citizen fall pray to fraud call; loses approximately 1lakh rupees

Udupi: A complaint has been filed with Brahmavar police station in the taluk about having been defrauded by someone posing as bank employee who collected detail of his ATM cards, and then drew money from the accounts without his authorization.

The victim is identified as Harish Hebbar (32) from Chantaru village near Brahmavar.

According to the sources, harish has account with Canara Bank Varamballi branch. Harish recieved a call from a person who identified himself as a bank employee working in bank's head office, collected details of his ATM card on june 21. When harish went to the ATM the next day to withdraw money, he found that the balance in his account had suddenly come down to Rs 13,325 from the earlier Rs 1,14,017, he stated.

Harish said, he called the phone number from where he had received the earlier call to enquire. The person on the other side wanted to know details of his other accounts if any. Harish gave the details about his account with Syndicate Bank. Within minutes, he checked his account out of suspicion and found to his dismay that his account, which earlier had a balance of Rs 6,659.83, was left with only Rs 66.83.

The police have registered the case and begun investigation.
