Bhatkal: The general body meeting of Bhatkal town Muncipality was held at TMC hall on Tuesday, where 22 agendas were presented in which many issues faced by the public were brought up.
A resolution was passed in the meeting to shift the drainage pumping station, situated in the high populated Ghausia street, to another place. It was decided to send a proposal to the state governemnt through Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner. It should be noted that since the last many years, the pumping station has posed problems to the locals as it is situated in a densely populated area. Many requests were made to the social organisation Majlis-e-Islah-wa-Tanzeem to shift this station by locals. Even Tanzeem had presented a memorandum to the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during his visit in Bhatkal on Tanzeem centenary program. Many rivers and wells in the surrounding areas of Ghausia street are polluted because of it. As the majority of the Muncipal councillors agreed to the shifting, a resolution was passed and it was finalized that the proposal should be sent to the deputy commissioner who will place his demands to the state government.
A concrete road at Dongar Palli was agreed in the meeting and Rs. 11 lakh was sanctioned. The condition of the road connecting Dongerpalli and Bunder road was in awful condition since years and it is highly dangerous to travel through the road. Many request were made to the MLA, AC, Tahsildar and TMC, but in the TMC meeting, it was decided finally to construct a concrete road for Dongar Palli.
A strong debate ensued at the meeting pertaining to the door to door garbage disposal system. The councillors expressed their displeasure about the garbage strewn across the town due to the poor disposal system and demanded the chief officer to request the appointed officer to ensure the garbage is collected regularly and the city is kept clean.
A resolution was also passed to cleansing of Daranta river, Chowtani river, Kadavina Katte dam, and Kogti lake which has been polluted due to the accumulation of higher amounts of mire and mud. It was also decided to forward a proposal to the state government through Deputy Commissioner.
Looking into the complexities occurred while payment of taxes, it was suggested that if a nationalised bank wills, a counter will be opened at the Municipal building for the tax deposition.
Speaking about the Ramadan bazar, it was decided that the application of only those persons will be accepted who comes under the municipal limits of Bhatkal.
The continual absence of a particular councillor was discussed and was decided that the absence report will be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner.
It was also announced that, as per the government orders, TMC will build toilets to the houses which lack sanitation facility within Muncipality limits. Those who wish to benefit from this scheme must contact the municipal chief officer or the councillor of that area.
