Bhatkal: Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem Bhatkal, a prominent socio-religious organization, has announced a massive public protest to be held on Friday, April 18, following Friday prayers, against the newly introduced Waqf law by the Central Government, which the organization has described as “anti-Muslim” and a “black law.”
Speaking to the media, Tanzeem President Inayatullah Shabandari clarified that the protest is not directed against any religion, caste, or community, but solely against the controversial legislation which, according to him, aims to harm the religious and communal assets of the Muslim community. He emphasized that raising voices against this law is the religious, national, and social duty of every Muslim.
He further appealed to justice-loving non-Muslim citizens to participate in the protest as a symbol of national unity and communal harmony.
The Tanzeem President urged the public to proceed directly to Mini Vidhana Soudha after Friday prayers, where a memorandum addressed to the President and Prime Minister of India will be submitted through the Tehsildar.
Shabandari also informed that a key meeting was held on Tuesday at Rabita Hall in Bhatkal, attended by Muslim leaders from Goa and the three coastal districts, during which it was unanimously decided that Muslims across all Taluks of Uttara Kannada district will shut down their businesses on Friday and submit memorandums to authorities through their respective Tehsildars or Assistant Commissioners.
In Bhatkal, the protest will be organized under the banner of Tanzeem, where Maulana Ilyas Jakati Nadvi, a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, will address the gathering before the formal submission of the memorandum.
