Mangaluru: The incessant rain that lashed Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday, threw life out of gear in the district and damaged a few houses besides uprooting trees and electricity poles.
The heavy rain saw roads flooded across Mangaluru city. K S Rao Road in front of City Centre Mall, Bunder area, Hampankatta, Pumpwell among others were water-logged. Pedestrians and vehicle users had a tough time wading through the rain-clogged roads in Mangaluru.
The water-level in river Nethravathi has increased to 6.2 metre in Bantwal. The water-level in Kumaradhara was 20 metre in Uppinangady.
Due to heavy rainfall in Subrahmanya, the schools and colleges have declared holiday on Wednesday. The snanaghatta (bathing ghat) in Kukke Subrahmanya has been submerged. The low-lying areas in and around Subrahmanya have also been inundated. The flood water has entered the arecanut plantations and paddy fields in the region.
Houses damaged
Two houses were damaged in Puttur taluk. The roof of the house belonging to Poovamma collapsed due to heavy rain in Paduvannor.
A huge tree uprooted and fell on electric line at Devadaru on Mani-Mysuru state highway. The electric poles in Ishwaramangala, Pernaje were also damaged. As a result, the power supply was disrupted till Wednesday evening.
